Chemify has officially launched the world’s first Chemputation facility in Glasgow, Scotland, a groundbreaking step in the digitization of molecular design and manufacture. This 21,500-ft² facility, known as Chemifarm, integrates artificial intelligence, robotics, and computational chemistry to streamline the process from molecular concept to physical compound, significantly speeding up the discovery of new medicines and materials.
The Chemifarm is equipped with a bespoke programming language, extensible robotics, and the largest curated library of validated reactions, enabling the design and synthesis of molecules previously considered unreachable. Lee Cronin, CEO and Founder of Chemify, highlighted the facility’s potential to revolutionize drug discovery and materials science by moving from code to compound faster than ever before.
Supported by a £12 million investment from the Glasgow City Region Innovation Accelerator Programme and a £1.1 million grant from Scottish Enterprise, the Chemifarm is expected to create 60 new jobs and safeguard over 50 existing roles in Glasgow. The facility features dedicated production suites, R&D labs, and a secure cloud architecture for storing and analyzing chemical data, positioning Scotland at the forefront of the global healthtech market.
Chemify’s partners, including major pharmaceutical and biotech companies, will benefit from confidential, on-demand access to bespoke molecules for research and development. The Chemifarm’s launch not only underscores the UK’s leadership in advanced chemical and pharmaceutical industries but also demonstrates the transformative impact of academic research translating into industrial innovation.
Dean Cook of Innovate UK and Adrian Gillespie of Scottish Enterprise both praised the Chemifarm as a testament to the power of place-based innovation support in achieving global impact. Councillor Susan Aitken of Glasgow City Council also commended Chemify for enhancing Glasgow’s reputation as a hub of scientific excellence and for contributing to the local economy through job creation and private investment.
