Festival to kick-off town’s Christmas celebrations

An all-day event will help residents get in the festive spirit at a North East Lincolnshire town.

The Great Grimsby Christmas Festival, takes place on 23 November from 12:00 to 19:00 GMT and will feature music, a market, a light parade and the town’s Christmas light switch-on.

Taking place across St James Square, Riverhead Square, Grimsby Minster, Freshney Place and Victoria Street, North East Lincolnshire Council said the event would be “bigger and better than ever”.

Councillor Hayden Dawkins, portfolio holder for culture, heritage and the visitor economy, said: “It’s exciting to see what is planned for Christmas in Grimsby town centre.”

She urged “as many people as possible to come and visit” the event and said there would be “something for everyone”.

Free festive activities

There will also be a curling lane for resident to try their hand at a winter sport, choral performances, craft activities and even DJ workshops.

The town’s ⁠Christmas tree lighting service takes place at 17:45 GMT and culminates in a Christmas party at the main stage.

The full programme and timings will be announced ahead of the event.

This year’s festival is funded by the government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with sponsorship from Orsted and the 2025 Group.

The council said the support has allowed the event to expand, “ensuring more performances and a memorable experience for everyone attending”.
