Legendary Band Klymaxx Robbed in San Francisco Area, Losing Thousands in Gear and Personal Items
The iconic all-female band Klymaxx, featuring Cheryl Cooley, experienced a distressing smash and grab theft in Burlingame, California, after performing shows celebrating Juneteenth. The incident occurred on June 23, 2025, at approximately 4:45 pm, while the band was dining at Kincaid’s restaurant. Their rental vehicle was broken into and ransacked, resulting in the loss of professional gear and personal items valued at several thousand dollars, despite the presence of a security guard at the time.
The Burlingame Police responded promptly to the band’s call, with Officer Theo notably assisting by sweeping broken glass from the vehicle to help the musicians. Stolen items included musical equipment, luggage, clothing, passports, IDs, jewelry, computers, and thousands of dollars in cash. Cheryl Cooley, the lead guitarist, expressed the overwhelming impact of the theft, which left band members with cuts from shattered glass, missed flights, and no money for lodging, stranding them until help arrived.
Following the robbery, the band endured a grueling 7-hour drive back to Los Angeles, thanks to KK ‘Funktress’ Ross’s dedication. Charis Jones, COO of Klymaxx Music, LLC, emphasized the violation of personal safety and the band’s livelihood. The band is working with financial institutions and insurance providers to recover losses and has set up a GoFundMe to replace stolen items and resume their 40th Anniversary Tour, celebrating their historic contributions to music.
This incident underscores the vulnerabilities artists face while touring, from the loss of essential equipment to the personal toll of such violations. Klymaxx’s resilience in the face of adversity continues to inspire, as they seek public support to overcome this setback and continue their legacy of empowering music.
